Job summary

Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking a Nursing Support Specialist to assist providers and maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation and patient flow.

You will prepare the patient, collect vitals, support injections and specimen collection, document encounters in EPIC, and relay information to the provider. A valid Iowa RN license and BLS are required; a sign-on bonus is available for external applicants.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Iowa or compact state required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse & Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training completed prior to start.

Responsibilities

• Prepare progress notes using provider-built EPIC tools for HPI, ROS, exam, assessment and plan.
• Room and prepare patients for examination; review histories, allergies, medications, and vitals.
• Administer injections and collect specimens per standing orders; perform phlebotomy as needed.
• Document encounters thoroughly in EPIC, including meds, referrals, education, and follow-up instructions.
• Provide patient education using approved materials and print after-visit summaries; schedule follow-ups when needed.
• Handle patient calls regarding test results and provide treatment instructions as directed.
• Assist with diagnostic procedures (EKG) and treatments (nebulizer) as directed.
• Prepare exam and treatment rooms with supplies and protective devices; maintain safety.
