Job summary

Midland-Marvel in Las Cruces, NM seeks an experienced RN Director of Risk Management to lead the hospital's risk, compliance, and ethics programs. This high-visibility role partners with executives, physicians, and legal counsel to identify clinical risk, enhance patient safety, and manage litigation.

The position requires a New Mexico RN license, 5+ years nursing experience, and 3+ years in a director-level role, with strong healthcare risk management expertise.

Qualifications

• Current New Mexico RN license or equivalent multistate license required.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited program required.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional nursing experience required.
• Minimum of 3 years of Director or Manager-level leadership experience preferred.
• Healthcare Risk Management experience required.
• Strong understanding of clinical risk, patient safety, regulatory compliance, incident investigation, and healthcare operations.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and oversight for the hospital's comprehensive risk management program and affiliated clinics.
• Identify, evaluate, investigate, and mitigate clinical and organizational risks.
• Develop strategies to prevent adverse events and reduce organizational exposure.
• Analyze incidents, trends, claims, and other risk indicators for improvement.
• Collaborate with executive leadership, physicians, nursing leaders, and department managers on risk concerns.
• Promote patient safety culture, transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Develop and maintain risk management policies, procedures, standards, and reporting processes.
• Ensure follow-up and corrective action for identified risks and adverse events.
• Coordinate hospital activities related to active litigation and potential claims.
• Conduct investigations into incidents, claims, and legal matters; participate in depositions as appropriate.
• Work with legal counsel on ongoing litigation and risk matters.
• Maintain confidentiality and documentation during investigations and litigation.
• Serve as liaison between hospital leadership, clinical staff, and legal counsel.
• Serve as Compliance and Ethics Officer and educate leaders on compliance expectations.
