Job summary

Haven Hospice in Gainesville, FL is seeking an On-Call Registered Nurse to provide compassionate, 1:1 hospice care during after-hours. This full-time role supports patients and families in their homes or facilities, delivering symptom relief and clinical care when schedules demand flexibility.

The RN will collaborate with physicians and the hospice team, document meticulously, and participate in after-hours calls, including pronouncing death if required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing school with Florida licensure.
• One year nursing experience required, 3+ years preferred.
• Experience in hospice or a similar setting preferred.
• Knowledge of the hospice philosophy of care.
• Commitment to clinical and documentation excellence.
• Must be a licensed driver with an automobile insured as required.

Responsibilities

• Deliver hands-on care to hospice patients and offer supportive services to their families during after-hours, on an on-call basis
• Assess and manage urgent symptoms quickly and compassionately
• Administer medication or adjust care based on hospice protocols or provider orders
• Communicate with the physician regarding changes in condition and obtain orders as necessary
• Offer guidance and support to the patient and family in understanding the current condition and anticipating the next steps
• If a death occurs during on-call hours, the RN will go to the home or facility to pronounce death, provide support to the family, contact the funeral home, and notify the hospice team
• Complete timely documentation and communication
