Job summary

Avera McKennan Hospital is seeking a part-time Registered Nurse to perform preadmission nursing duties, collect patient data, and educate patients undergoing surgical and radiology procedures. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure smooth handoffs and optimal patient care.

The role requires an active RN license in the practicing state, strong communication skills, and the ability to use healthcare technology and information systems.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the state of practice.
• Visual acuity adequate to perform duties.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and team.
• Willingness to work with multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Collects patient health data.
• Documents nursing history for assigned patients via phone interviews.
• Initiates anesthesia record and home medication record.
• Ensures appropriate in-hospital referrals are completed to provide optimal patient care.
• Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation.
• Provides general surgical/clinical education and instructions to all interviewed surgical patients.
• Collaborates with patients and healthcare providers in care delivery.
• Utilizes healthcare technology and/or information management systems in the preadmission nursing role.
• Participates in department quality improvement activities.
• Supports follow-up calls per outlined protocols.
