Description:This position requires a Registered Nurse to work in a Stepdown unit with a focus on acute patient care.The unit consists of 22 private beds.The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5 days and nights.Common diagnoses include cardiac cases, open heart surgeries, cranial procedures, and various respiratory conditions.The nurse will be responsible for managing patients on Cardizem, amiodarone, nitroglycerin for blood pressure, insulin, heparin, dopamine, and dobutamine.The charge nurse operates as the team lead during the day and does not take patients.Charge nurses on nights, weekends, and holidays do take patients.Nurse aides are present on the unit at a ratio of 1:10, assisting with blood sugars, vital signs, and activities of daily living.Respiratory support equipment includes CPAP, BIPAP, and high-flow nasal canula.Registered Nurses read telemetry, and there is a centralized telemetry technician to assist with monitoring.Scheduling accommodates blocks for weekends and includes every other weekend and holiday requirements.Floating to ICU or medical surgical units may be necessary to take on a full patient assignment.Caribbean scrubs are the required uniform color.Unit-specific orientation lasts for one 12-hour shift.
