Job summary

MercyOne Trinity Health is seeking a Charge Nurse to provide shift-to-shift leadership for safe, efficient patient care and to bridge direct care with administrative duties. The role supports staff, ensures policy adherence, and maintains patient safety and satisfaction across the unit.

The Charge Nurse collaborates with physicians and the care team, mentors staff, and plays a key part in hiring input and quality improvement initiatives to advance clinical practice.

Qualifications

• Current or compact RN license for Iowa.
• BLS certification within 3 months of hire.
• RN experience: 12 months minimum (24 months preferred).
• Proof of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Develops and maintains staffing plans for the department during shifts.
• Oversees daily operations and staff coordination within the unit.
• Resolves clinical issues and liaises between nurses, physicians, and admin teams.
• Provides orientation/education for staff and students to ensure quality care.
• Leads the delivery of safe and effective patient care with clinical judgment.
• Balances schedule and resources to optimize patient care and unit operations.
