Job summary

MercyOne Trinity Health is seeking a dedicated Charge Nurse to provide shift-to-shift leadership in a hospital unit. The role bridges direct patient care with administrative duties, ensuring safe, efficient and ethical care, while supporting staff development and maintaining patient safety.

The Charge Nurse will lead staffing, coordinate interdepartmental activities, mentor staff, and collaborate with physicians and the care team to optimize patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Active RN license issued by Iowa
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred
• 12 months of RN experience required (24 months preferred)
• BLS certification within 3 months of hire
• Unit-specific credentialing and education active and in good standing

Responsibilities

• Develops and maintains departmental daily staffing plan.
• Oversees daily operations and staff management during the shift.
• Resolves clinical issues and liaises with nurses, physicians, and admin teams.
• Provides orientation/education for staff and students.
• Leads staff in delivering safe and effective patient care.
• Collaborates with physicians on patient care plans.
• Maintains documentation and compliance with Joint Commission standards.
• Supports HR functions with input on personnel matters.
