Job summary

PeaceHealth in Oregon seeks an experienced Neurology Nurse to join the 36-bed Neurology Unit at Sacred Heart Medical Center. You will care for patients with stroke, seizures, MS, Parkinson's, and other neurological conditions, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality outcomes.

The role is full-time at 0.9 FTE with 12-hour night shifts. Eligible for benefits including health coverage, retirement options, PTO, and tuition reimbursement; NIHSS certification within 6

Qualifications

• RN license in Oregon required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire.
• Minimum one year RN experience in acute care; neurology experience preferred.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Care for patients with neurological diagnoses (stroke, TIA, seizures, MS, Parkinson's, neuromuscular conditions).
• Work in a multidisciplinary team with neurologists, hospitalists, therapists, and nursing staff.
• Provide patient- and family-centered care and education.

• Full time, 0.9 FTE, Night Shift position (12 hour shifts)
• The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $50.78 – $79.78
• Additional Night Shift differential- $9.50/hour

As a Neurology Nurse, you will care for patients with a wide range of neurological diagnoses, including:

• Stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA)

You will work alongside experienced neurologists, hospitalists, rehabilitation specialists, therapists, and nursing professionals in a multidisciplinary environment focused on delivering exceptional patient outcomes.

What You Bring!

Education: Degree from an accredited School of Nursing Required

Experience:Minimum one year RN experience required in an acute care facility or (for RN residents) successful completion of a training course/orientation and standard competencies within six months of hire.

Acute care and/or neurology experience is preferred.

Credentials:

• Required: State of Oregon nursing license

• Required Upon Hire: Basic Life Support

• Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs (Required)

Department / Location Specific Notes

Medical/Surgical- Observation Unit & Neurology:

• National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS) required within 6 months.

Working Conditions

Lifting

• Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).

• Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.

• Push/Pull: Frequently up to 45 lbs. force (i.e., WOW, medical carts).

• Perform hands on CPR at least 20 mins using 100-125 lbs. of force (National Assoc. of EMS Physicians and AHA) Frequency should be seldom or occasionally.

• Ability to move around area with frequent sitting.

• Bending/ stooping/ squatting/ reaching/ kneeling frequently.

• Lifting (non-patient) up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently.

Environmental Conditions

• Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.

• Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment.

Mental/Visual

• Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).

• Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
