Job summary

PeaceHealth is seeking an experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurse for our Level II Trauma Center. The 54-bed ED offers 12-hour night shifts with a 0.9 FTE; a meaningful role providing exceptional care when patients need it most.

We value nurses with ED experience in comparable settings, who will participate in education, policy development, and patient safety initiatives while supporting a collaborative nursing team. A BSN-aligned path yields 4% more pay for BSN-prepared staff.

Qualifications

  • Minimum one year ED RN experience (within the past 5 years).
  • ED experience in a Trauma Level II or greater setting; Magnet or Academic hospital preferred.
  • Oregon RN license; BLS required; ACLS, PALS, NIHSS within 6 months; TNCC within 12 months.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care needs.
  • Document patient care in the health record per standards.
  • Direct and delegate care based on education and competence.
  • Maintain professional development and contribute to hospital policies, quality, safety, and infection prevention.
  • Care for patients requiring reversal of anticoagulants, tPA, seizure management, and emergent EVD; manage BP with vasoactive agents.

Nursing responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care needs.
  • Documents patient care in the healthcare record according to established standards.
  • Directs and delegates care to other team members in accordance with their education, credentials, and demonstrated competence.
  • Ensures own professional effectiveness through education and professional development.
  • Participates in the development of and maintains established hospital policies, procedures and objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection prevention program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Care of patient requiring reversal of anticoagulants, administration and monitoring of tPA seizure management and emergent EVD. Management of blood pressure abnormalities with parenteral vasoactive agents.
What You Bring
Education

Degree from an accredited School of Nursing required

Experience
  • Minimum one year recent ED RN experience required (within the past 5 years).
  • ED experience in like sized and like-census ED; Trauma level 2 or greater; experience at a Magnet or Academic hospital; experience with a shared governance model; hospital accredited and certified by DNV or TJC preferred
Credentials
  • Required: State of oregon nursing license
  • Required Upon Hire: Basic Life Support
  • Required within 6 months: ACLS, PALS and NIHSS
  • Required within 12 months: TNCC
Skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs (Required)

  • Demonstrated ability to promote positive interpersonal relationships and patient/family centered work environment (Required)
  • Able to support and interpret medical center philosophy, policy and procedures (Required)
  • Basic computer skills (Required)
Department / Location Specific Notes
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 6 months.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 6 months.
  • Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) required within 12 months.
  • National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS) required within 6 months.
Working Conditions
Lifting
  • Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
  • Push/Pull: Frequently up to 45 lbs. force (i.e., WOW, medical carts).
  • Perform hands on CPR at least 20 mins using 100-125 lbs. of force (National Assoc. of EMS Physicians and AHA) Frequency should be seldom or occasionally.
  • Ability to move around area with frequent sitting.
  • Bending/ stooping/ squatting/ reaching/ kneeling frequently.
  • Lifting (non-patient) up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently.
Environmental Conditions
  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
  • Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment.
Mental/Visual
  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
