Qualifications

• Experience caring for stroke patients and managing neuro patients.

Responsibilities

• Provide care for high-acuity neuroscience patients on the Neuro PCU.
• Titrate drips and med orders per physician instructions (e.g., antiarrhythmics, insulin).
• Monitor telemetry and respond to patient changes per protocols.
• Collaborate with charge nurse and unit team to ensure safe, efficient care.

Description:The position is for a Registered Nurse in a Neuro Stepdown and EMU setting.The unit has a total of 31 beds, consisting of 25 Stepdown and 6 EMU beds.The nurse-to-patient ratio for stepdown is 1:3.Nurses are expected to care for higher acuity neuroscience patients.Experience with external ventricular drains (EVDs) is preferred.The unit manages patients post-thrombolysis (TPA) in accordance with established protocols.Common patient diagnoses include strokes, seizures, and patients requiring craniotomies.Nurses may be responsible for titrating drips based on physician orders.Common titratable drips include Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, and Insulin.There is a charge nurse available 24/7.Nurse aides are present on the unit to assist with patient care.Respiratory therapy is available around the clock for support.Telemetry monitoring is available on the unit, and nurses do not need to read strips.Shifts are scheduled for three consecutive 12-hour nights from 7 PM to 7:30 AM.Travelers should be flexible with scheduling and are expected to work holidays as part of the rotation.There's a possibility of floating to other units.The required scrub color is royal blue.Charting is done using an electronic health record system.
