Job summary

UT Southwestern's inpatient behavioral health utilization management nursing role is based in Dallas, focusing on medical necessity and payer requirements. The nurse coordinates prospective, concurrent, and retrospective reviews, documenting thoroughly in the EMR and payer portals while supporting appropriate level of care and transitions.

Ideal candidates will have 5–8 years of inpatient psychiatry experience, an active Texas RN license, and strong communication and collaboration skills to work

Qualifications

• Graduate of accredited nursing program with active Texas RN license.
• 5–8 years of clinical experience in inpatient psychiatry.
• Knowledge of utilization management and payer requirements preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs prospective, concurrent, and retrospective utilization reviews for inpatient behavioral health.
• Completes pre-certifications, admissions, recertifications, and retrospective reviews.
• Maintains UR documentation in EMR and payer portals and meets deadlines.
• Collaborates with physicians and treatment teams to ensure appropriate level of care.
