Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas is seeking a RN Manager, Behavioral Health Utilization Management to lead the Behavioral Health UM team and ensure compliance with governmental and accrediting standards for admissions, treatment and continued stay.

The role requires extensive nursing and UM experience in behavioral health, with strong analytical and negotiation skills, and the ability to communicate across all levels of staff.

Qualifications

• 5 years in healthcare management or UM position.
• 6 years nursing experience with 3 years UM experience.
• Experience in behavioral health UM, including psychiatric/substance use levels of care, medical necessity review, payer authorization and continued stay review.
• 1 year of experience implementing utilization management policies, procedures and protocols for mental health services.
• 1 year of experience supervising mental health providers or behavioral health utilization management staff.
• Proven record of identifying process improvement opportunities and strong negotiating, analytical and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensures that behavioral health inpatient concurrent reviews and retrospective review requests are performed using nationally recognized and evidence based standards.
• Provides leadership guidance to the UM team and tracks data accuracy.
• Leads Health Services programs, operations, and policies to ensure high quality results and optimal resource use.
• Consults with psychiatric providers, medical staff, UM team and Care Coordinators to resolve barriers.
• Uses data to develop programs reducing length of stay and improving discharge outcomes.
• Represents BH utilization management at committees and with payer sources.
