Job summary

Carle Health is seeking an RN First Assist to support surgeons in a safe operative environment. The RNFA independently conducts perioperative assessments and postoperative evaluations, collaborating with the surgical team to ensure optimal patient care and efficient procedures.

Qualified candidates hold an RN license with CNOR and BLS certification, completed RNFA program, and at least two years of perioperative nursing experience.

Qualifications

• RN license in IL with CNOR and BLS within 30 days.
• RNFA program completion required; nursing degree or diploma.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon in general and specialized surgeries.
• Prepare trays, instrumentation and supplies with OR team.
• Provide patient care and administer medications.
• Perform intraoperative tasks: hemostasis, wound closure, draping, tissue handling.
• Position patient and monitor vitals during surgery.
• Educate patient and family on operation and aftercare.
• Conduct postoperative assessments and monitor for pain or complications.
• Assist with room turnover and equipment organization.
