Job summary

The Medical University Hospital Authority is seeking Nurse Externs to join the Emergency Department on a PRN basis. You will work under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and perform multi-skilled duties to care for patients.

Responsibilities include assisting with personal hygiene, comfort, safety, and transport to tests, while learning in a fast-paced environment. Current ADN or BSN nursing student with BLS certification is required.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled nursing student in an accredited ADN or BSN program.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Ability to work rotating shifts in a fast-paced Emergency Department.

• Assist nursing team with patient care tasks and basic services.
• Support personal hygiene, comfort, safety and mobility of patients.
• Assist with transportation to tests/procedures and record vital signs under supervision.

Job Description

The Nurse Externs works under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. They performs multi-skilled duties within the limits of training and certification in caring for the patient.

Assists nursing team with a variety of patient care activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal needs, comfort, and safety of patients. Assists patients with personal hygiene, dressing, walking. Changes bed linens and assists with patient transportation to tests and procedures. May serve and collect food trays and provide patients with between-meal nourishment. May record temperature or vital signs under the direction of a nurse.

PRN Status Clause:

PRN / “as-needed” means you are not guaranteed a fixed schedule or hours. You work when they have needs in the schedule. You must be available to work at least 12 hours every two weeks (bi-weekly minimum), as specified in your PRN Commitment Agreement. Your actual hours will depend on department needs, not a set schedule. You may be asked to pick up extra shifts to cover gaps (like call-outs or shortages). Your total hours can go up or down—some weeks you might work more, some less.

Additional Job Description

Education: Currently enrolled Nursing Student in an accredited Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) program.

Licenses/Certification: Basic Life Support with American Heart Association is required
