Qualifications

• Unencumbered RN license in Colorado or a compact state.
• BLS certification within six months of hire.
• ACLS certification within six months of hire.
• PALS or ENPC within one year of hire.
• Two years of hospital nursing experience; OR experience a plus.

Job Description

The Surgical Registered Nurse is responsible for coordinating and implementing individualized care plans for surgical patients using the nursing process. This role operates within the scope, standards, policies, values, and mission of the organization.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, and evaluate patient care based on assessments to optimize outcomes.
• Monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions effectively.
• Collaborate across disciplines for coordinated patient care including transfers and discharges.
• Identify and address barriers to effective communication considering psychosocial and cultural factors.
• Evaluate the learning needs of patients and families, providing education tailored to their circumstances.
• Delegate patient care appropriately to ancillary personnel and precept students as needed.
• Demonstrate critical thinking and decisive judgment in a fast-paced environment.
• Ensure compliance with AORN and ASPAN standards, as well as organizational policies.
• Verify all perioperative documentation and readiness before surgery.
• Respond to emergencies with appropriate interventions as per ACLS, PALS protocols.
• Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Must possess an unencumbered RN License in Colorado or a compact state.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within six months of hire.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required within six months of hire.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) required within one year of hire.
• Two years of hospital nursing experience preferred; previous OR experience is a plus.

Schedule

This position operates on a day shift schedule and requires flexibility to handle the demands of surgical nursing.
