Overview

The Ambulatory Nurse utilizes a systematic approach to nursing by incorporating assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the practice of nursing. Provides healthcare to individuals, families, and communities within the RN scope of practice as defined by the Illinois Board of Nursing.

Qualifications

• Certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 1 year (American Heart Association)
• Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN), Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
• Certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 1 year (American Heart Association)
• Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days (American Heart Association)
• High School Diploma or GED
• Relevant work experience

Responsibilities

• Provides and facilitates competent health care of patients and families in area of practice.
• Ensures adherence to established standards of care and scope of practice.
• Ensures documentation of care is complete and accurate.
• Provides health and wellness education to individuals and groups.
• Acts as preceptor and supports the development of other staff and healthcare students.
• Provides leadership for initiatives designed to improve the quality of care or clinical outcomes.
• Administers medication via IM, PO, Rectal, IV, SQ, and inhaled routes.
• Performs procedures: ear washes, nebulizer treatments, peak flows, splint applications, crutch training, wound care, point-of-care testing, IV starts and therapy, vision screenings, EKG, catheterizations, suture/staple removal, vaginal exams, incision and drainage as needed.
• Member of the Code Team when needed; Nurse Lead during assigned shift.
• Preceptor for new employees; performs patient education.
• Conducts waiting room and exam room rounding.
• Collects and processes specimens.
• Provides patients with written instructions regarding procedures, medications, or follow-up instructions per provider direction.
• Assists with prescription medication refills per department protocols.
• Calls medications into pharmacies, notifies patients of refills, documents actions within EMR per provider orders.
• Maintains department-specific competencies related to point-of-care testing, equipment handling, and specialty training.
• Cleans instruments.
• Rooms patients: collects pertinent information, vital signs, medication reconciliation on arrival.
• Conducts telephone triage and communications with patients, families, pharmacies, and other health‑care facilities.
• Communicates test results to patients via phone and mail (My Carle).

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $32.21 per hour – $55.40 per hour. The actual compensation offered will depend on experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked, and compensation model. Carle Health offers a comprehensive benefits package.
