Job summary

R1 RCM, Inc. is seeking a Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Specialist to review inpatient records, improve documentation quality, and support accurate severity of illness and reimbursement.

You will interact with physicians, educate staff on coding guidelines, and ensure high specificity in DRG assignment across acute care settings. Active RN license and CDI experience are required.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in nursing required; bachelor’s preferred.
• Active US RN license required.
• Front line CDI experience in an acute care hospital.
• 3–5 years of recent clinical work in medical-surgical, ICU, telemetry, or ED.
• Knowledge of EMR platforms and CDI platforms.

Responsibilities

• Initiates physician interaction to obtain documentation via queries for accurate coding.
• Educates clinicians and staff on documentation and reimbursement guidelines.
• Assigns DRGs using coding rules with high specificity during hospitalization.
• Collaborates with coders, auditors, and quality teams to resolve documentation issues.
• Stays updated on clinical documentation standards and regulatory changes.
• Performs mortality, PSI, and other targeted reviews.
