Job summary

R1 RCM Inc. is a leading provider of revenue cycle technology and expertise, seeking a Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Specialist to review inpatient records and drive documentation quality.

You will apply clinical and coding knowledge to improve accuracy and reimbursement. In this role you will focus on mortality, PSI reviews, and other CDI projects, collaborating with physicians and CDI staff to support precise severity of illness and complexity of care.

Qualifications

• Active US RN license required.
• Three to five years of recent clinical work experience in the medical-surgical area, ICU, telemetry, and/or emergency department.
• Front line CDI experience in an acute care hospital.
• Knowledge or experience with EMR platforms and CDI platforms.

Responsibilities

• Initiates physician interaction to obtain documentation for accurate coding and reflection of CMI, LOS, and resource use.
• Educates physicians and staff on documentation requirements, coding guidelines, and reimbursement policies.
• Applies coding clinic guidelines to assign DRGs with high specificity and ensure proper reimbursement.
• Collaborates with coders, auditors, and quality improvement teams to resolve documentation issues.
• Stays updated on clinical documentation standards, coding rules, and regulatory requirements.
• Conducts focused reviews as identified by CDI leadership (Mortality, PSI, other projects).
