Job summary

R1 RCM Inc. is seeking a Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Specialist in the United States to lead concurrent and retrospective reviews of inpatient records, improve documentation quality, and support accurate severity of illness and LOS.

You will query physicians, educate staff, and collaborate with coders and quality teams to enhance coding accuracy. The role requires frontline CDI experience in acute care, active RN license, and strong knowledge of CMS rules and CDI platforms.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Nursing; RN license active.
• 3–5 years of frontline CDI in acute care.
• Experience with EMR/CDI platforms.
• Knowledge of CMS rules and coding guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Initiates physician interaction to obtain complete documentation.
• Educates physicians and staff on documentation and reimbursement policies.
• Assigns working DRG using coding guidelines and reviews records for accuracy.
• Collaborates with coders, auditors, and quality teams to resolve issues.
• Stays updated on CDI standards and regulations.
• Conducts focused reviews in mortality, PSI, and other projects.
