Job summary

R1 RCM Inc. is seeking a Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Specialist to review inpatient charts and improve documentation quality to support accurate coding and optimal reimbursement.

You will drive physician engagement and education to ensure documentation supports severity of illness and resource utilization. You will collaborate with coders and the CDI team, stay current on coding rules, and participate in CDI initiatives across the organization.

Qualifications

• Active US RN license required.
• 3–5 years clinical work in medical-surgical, ICU, telemetry or ED.
• Experience with EMR/CDI platforms and CDI practices.

Responsibilities

• Initiates physician interaction to obtain documentation for correct coding.
• Educates physicians and staff on documentation and coding guidelines.
• Uses hospital coding systems to assign DRGs with high specificity.
• Collaborates with coders, auditors and CDI team to resolve issues.
• Stays updated on CDI rules, regulations and CMS changes.
• Conducts focused reviews in mortality/PSI areas and other projects.
