Job summary

R1 RCM Inc. seeks a Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Specialist in the United States to analyze inpatient records for documentation quality and coding accuracy. You will lead physician queries, support severity of illness, and participate in CDI initiatives.

Role requires frontline CDI experience in an acute care hospital, RN licensure, and 3–5 years of medical-surgical/ICU/telemetry/ED experience. Eligible for annual bonus; base pay ranges widely by role and location.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s preferred.
• Active US RN license required.
• 3–5 years of clinical work in medical-surgical, ICU, telemetry or ED.
• Front line CDI experience in an acute care hospital.
• Knowledge of EMR and CDI platforms.

Responsibilities

• Initiates physician interaction to obtain missing or conflicting documentation.
• Educates physicians and staff on documentation requirements and guidelines.
• Assigns DRG using coding guidelines and revisits records for accuracy.
• Collaborates with coders, auditors and quality teams to resolve issues.
• Keeps up-to-date with CDI standards, coding rules and regulations.
• Conducts focused reviews including mortality and PSI reviews.
