Job summary

Cardiovascular Institute of the South in Baton Rouge, LA seeks a skilled registered nurse to perform and supervise cardiac stress testing, with a focus on PET/CT studies, in collaboration with providers and Nuclear Technologists. You will deliver holistic, professional care to cardiology patients under physician supervision.

In this role you will participate in diagnostics and therapeutic procedures, educate patients and families, document encounters in the EHR, and serve as a clinical leader

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Active, unrestricted RN license
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Strong knowledge of EKG interpretation and cardiology procedures
  • Proficient in IV initiation, venipuncture, and medication administration
  • Excellent communication, time management and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Commitment to continuing education and professional development
  • Preferred: advanced cardiology certification and 2 years in critical care

Responsibilities

  • Perform and supervise cardiac stress testing, with emphasis on PET/CT studies
  • Provide holistic nursing care to cardiology patients under physician supervision
  • Support diagnostic and therapeutic cardiovascular procedures including stress testing and EKGs
  • Serve as a clinical leader and resource within the cardiology clinic
  • Ensure safe, high-quality patient care in line with state nursing regulations and standards
  • Document patient status, vitals, and test results in the EHR
  • Educate patients and families on procedures, medications, and follow-up care
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other staff to promote coordinated care
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff education

About The Role
  • Perform and supervise cardiac stress testing, with the majority of the testing focused on PET/CT scans in collaboration with providers and Nuclear Technologists
  • Provide holistic, professional nursing care to cardiology patients under physician supervision
  • Support diagnostic and therapeutic cardiovascular procedures, including stress testing and EKGs
  • Serve as a clinical leader and resource within the cardiology clinic setting
  • Ensure safe, high-quality patient care in alignment with state nursing regulations and clinical standards
How You’ll Drive Our Mission Forward
  • Assess, monitor, and document patient status, including vital signs, EKGs, and response to stress agents
  • Identify and respond to adverse patient reactions and initiate emergency measures when needed
  • Educate patients and families on procedures, medications, dietary restrictions, and follow-up care
  • Accurately document all patient encounters, treadmill reports, and clinical findings in the EHR
  • Act as a liaison among patients, physicians, ancillary staff, and departments to promote coordinated care
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, staff education, and community outreach efforts
  • Uphold ethical decision-making, patient advocacy, and evidence-based cardiology practice
What Makes You a Great Match
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an active, unencumbered RN license
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications
  • Strong knowledge of EKG interpretation, rhythm abnormalities, and cardiology procedures
  • Proficient in IV initiation, venipuncture, and medication administration
  • Excellent communication, time management, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Commitment to continuing education and professional development
  • Preferred: Advanced cardiology/cardiovascular certification and two years of critical care experience
