Job summary

The Vanguard Technology Leadership Program in Risk & Security Engineering is a two-year rotational path for graduates to design and build secure software and infrastructure, embedding security across Vanguard’s systems while learning through real-world projects.

You’ll collaborate with developers, cybersecurity teams, and business partners, gaining leadership, mentoring, and hands-on experience through capstones and hackathons; the program uses Agile methods to deliver secure, scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, IST, IT, CIS, Security, Risk, Cybersecurity or related field.
• Strong interest in software engineering with a security focus.
• Willingness to learn secure coding practices.
• Demonstrated leadership potential and initiative.
• Strong analytical, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• GPA of 3.2 or higher preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and enhance secure applications and systems across Vanguard’s technology environment.
• Contribute to implementing security controls and best practices within software, platforms, and infrastructure.
• Assist in identifying and addressing vulnerabilities in applications and systems.
• Build tools, automations, or processes that improve security and operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with engineering, security, and platform teams to deliver secure and scalable solutions.
• Gain exposure to secure software development practices, DevSecOps, and cybersecurity concepts.
• Apply Agile methodologies to support development and security initiatives.
• Take ownership of projects and deliver high-impact outcomes.
• Collaborate across teams and mentor others when possible.
• Build a network with program managers, alumni, senior leaders, and peers.
• Meet regularly with your department and program managers for coaching and mentorship.
