Job summary

Valley Metro seeks a Risk Management Specialist to support the claim and risk management program, reporting to the Chief Legal Officer and Legal Operations Manager. This position handles general liability and property damage claims and helps develop risk goals and objectives.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree and several years of claims and risk management experience to provide actionable insights for program improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Risk Management or related field.
• Four years of progressively responsible claims management experience.
• Two years in organizational risk management including workers’ compensation and insurance programs.
• Transit industry risk management experience desired.
• Public/government sector risk management experience desired.
• Equivalent education+experience; more education cannot substitute.

Responsibilities

• Assists with risk management program, including insurance, self-insurance, workers’ compensation, and claims administration activities.
• Coordinates insurance program activities with external brokers, renewals, and coverage analysis; reviews requirements and policy terms.
• Reviews, investigates, processes, and coordinates resolution of liability, property, auto, restitution, and subrogation claims; tracks loss data.
• Collaborates on the program budget by monitoring expenditures and preparing financial data for planning.
• Provides guidance to departments on risk requirements and ensures alignment with standards.
• Supports contract and compliance by reviewing insurance provisions and regulatory alignment.
• Develops and maintains SOPs and coordinates training related to risk and insurance processes.
• Prepares reports and analyses on program activities for leadership and stakeholders.
• Keeps current on regulatory changes, industry trends, and best practices.
