Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Conduct investigations of automobile, liability, and property claims, including fact gathering and claim closure.
  • Communicate effectively by phone, email, and in person to investigate, negotiate, and resolve claims.
  • Utilize risk management and claims information systems to document and track claims.
  • Process financial transactions and claim payments per procedures.
  • Provide guidance on risk management, insurance, and claims-related matters.
  • Maintain department databases and prepare reports as needed.
  • Assist with renewal and administration of insurance policies and self-insurance programs.

Job Summary

University of Utah Risk & Insurance Services (URIS) providesentrepreneurial and innovative services that assist individuals,departments, and administrators in identifying, managing, andmonitoring risks associated with their programs and activities.URIS encourages ingenuity and leverages the upside of risk.

This position provides administrative, operational, andprofessional support to the Director and Managers of Risk & Insurance Services. The incumbent performs a wide range of ongoingfunctions and serves as a resource for internal stakeholders at alllevels of the University, as well as external partners. This roleoffers an opportunity to learn and develop skills within the riskmanagement and insurance profession.

The successful candidate will be a team-oriented, detail-focused,and self-motivated professional with strong organizational andcommunication skills. The individual must be comfortable handlingdifficult conversations with internal and external parties,demonstrate reliability and accountability, and maintainconfidentiality while managing multiple responsibilities anddeadlines.

  • Communicate effectively by phone, email, and in person toinvestigate, negotiate, and resolve claims in a timely andprofessional manner.
  • Utilize risk management & claims information systems todocument, track, and manage claims and related activities.
  • Process financial transactions and claim payments in accordancewith departmental procedures & supervisory direction.
  • Serve as a resource to the University community by providingguidance on risk management, insurance, and claims-relatedmatters.
  • Maintain department databases & records, and prepare reports,analyses, & information requests as needed.
  • Assist with the renewal & administration of commercialinsurance policies & self-insurance programs.
  • Process Certificates of Insurance & review special eventapplications.
  • Provide guidance regarding University driver trainingrequirements.
  • Evaluate potential risk exposures & recommend appropriate riskmitigation & loss prevention measures.
  • Direct inquiries to departmental resources, including the Risk& Insurance Services website and other University offices, asappropriate.
  • Support departmental projects & initiatives & perform otherduties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher educationcan be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience(Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related workexperience).

Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master's (orequivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.

Preferences
  • Experience in claims administration, risk management, insuranceoperations, or office administration is preferred but notrequired.
  • The ideal candidate will be a collaborative & service-orientedprofessional who is detail-oriented, self-motivated, organized,dependable, & able to communicate effectively with a variety ofstakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, followthrough on assignments, & contribute positively to a teamenvironment is highly valued.
  • Prior experience working at the University of Utah or within ahigher education environment is preferred but not required.
