The Opportunity :

The University of Central Florida is seeking a collaborative and strategic risk management professional to serve as Manager, Risk and Insurance. This position plays a key role in safeguarding the university's mission through management of insurance programs and strategies, claims administration, and stakeholder consultation across a dynamic and complex environment. With exposure to a wide range of academic, research, operational, and administrative initiatives, this role offers the opportunity to address unique challenges, build meaningful partnerships, and contribute to the continued evolution of risk management at one of the nation's largest public universities.

The successful candidate will be a trusted advisor who combines technical expertise with strong relationship-building skills. They will possess the judgment and professionalism needed to navigate complex risk and insurance matters, provide thoughtful recommendations, and support informed decision-making across the university. The strongest candidates will have demonstrated success working with varied stakeholders, interpreting insurance and contractual risk provisions, and advancing initiatives that improve organizational effectiveness while supporting institutional goals.

Classification Title: Manager, Risk Management
Responsibilities:
  • Manage university's insurance program including working with brokers, carriers, state partners, and internal stakeholders to procure and renew existing coverages, evaluating and assessing coverage options to develop recommendations to leadership, conducting comprehensive review of insurance documents, and maintaining insurance schedules as needed.
  • Administer university's claims process including the timely submission and reporting of claims, serving as university liaison with brokers, carriers, and state partners on claim-related matters, and partnering with Office of General Counsel and outside counsel on claim resolution including discovery and settlement recommendations.
  • Manage the university's automotive physical damage self-insurance program including formulating university guidelines, reviewing incident details for applicability, facilitating repair of university vehicles involved in incidents, and preparing reports for university stakeholders and leadership.
  • Supervise management of a variety of tasks including risk review of potentially hazardous events (SAFE Forms), certificate of insurance, therapy animal requests, and vehicle numbering processes.
  • In conjunction with the AVP, Enterprise Risk and Resilience review legal contracts, agreements, and leases for appropriate insurance language and liability exposures.
  • Oversee university-wide volunteer registration program including administration of volunteer software, creation of department / event specific volunteer forms, reporting, and responding to audit / investigative inquiries.
  • Analyze risk exposures and develop recommended strategies, policies, guidelines, and/or procedures in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Assist with the development and communication of presentations, training materials, etc. to educate the broader university community regarding risk and insurance topics.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications :
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree and 4+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6) .
Preferred Qualifications :
  • Master's degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Legal Studies, Insurance, or a related field.
  • Experience administering commercial insurance programs, claims management programs, or insurance captives.
  • Experience reviewing insurance requirements, risk transfer provisions, indemnification language, and other contractual risk management documents.
  • Strong judgment when evaluating risk exposures and recommending practical solutions.
  • Previous experience leading teams, mentoring staff, or coordinating projects across multiple departments.
  • A customer-service mindset paired with strong technical insurance knowledge.
  • Professional designations such as Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), or related certifications.
  • Experience in higher education, government, public sector, or operational industries.
