Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Structural Engineer to support project teams in designing and detailing for power, process, corporate, healthcare, and infrastructure sectors in the Houston area. You will assist from concept to construction, adapting designs to budget and client needs.

You will work under a licensed PE, contribute to drawings in AutoCAD, Revit, and Tekla, and engage in field inspections as required.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or related field.
ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
Senior internship or related consulting experience preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem‑solving environment.
Proficiency with structural analysis programs and BIM tools.
Demonstrated leadership and teamwork abilities.
EIT Certification preferred.
GPA 3.0+ strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Assists in structural design from conceptual phase through design completion.
Assists with modifying and reviewing production drawings for various facilities.
Designs structural components as directed by project managers.
Applies basic knowledge of structural engineering concepts, codes, and procedures.
Assists with data collection and project related research.
Assists with updating drawings in CAD software and verifying corrections.
Assists with client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration.
Performs field inspections, measurements or calculations as required.
Complies with policies and standards.
