Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Structural Engineer to support project teams across power, process, and healthcare facilities. You will assist in conceptual design, modify drawings, and help ensure structural plans meet client needs and budgets.

You will contribute to field inspections, CAD updates, and collaboration with project managers, with opportunities to develop leadership and engineering skills in a multidisciplinary environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or related field (ABET preferred).
• Internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of standard structural engineering techniques.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work analytically in a quantitative problem‑solving environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in structural design from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Modify and review production drawings for various projects (power, process, healthcare, etc.).
• Design structural components per project manager requirements.
• Apply basic knowledge of structural engineering concepts, codes, and procedures.
• Research and compile project-related data as required by project managers.
• Assist in correcting/updating drawings in CAD software under senior engineers.
• Assist in client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
• Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for clients.
• Comply with all policies and standards.
