Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Houston is seeking an Assistant Electrical Engineer to support project teams delivering world-class designs for power, process, healthcare, airports, and industrial facilities from concept through design completion.

You will assist with drawings, CAD work (AutoCAD, BIM), calculations, field measurements, client presentations, and project documentation while learning from senior engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering is required.
• ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
• Prior internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
• Campus or community involvement preferred.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the country where this position is located.
• Basic knowledge of standard electrical engineering techniques, principles and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrate critical thinking skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office; basic CAD/electrical analysis tools (RISA, AutoCAD, BIM).
• Strong attention to detail, facilitation, teamwork, organization and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated leadership potential.
• EIT certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists in electrical design from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Assists with modifying and reviewing production drawings for diverse projects (power, process, industrial, healthcare, airports, education, commercial, government, military).
• Assists in designing electrical components per project needs.
• Applies basic electrical engineering concepts, practices, codes and procedures.
• Assists with research and compiles project-related data.
• Assists in updating drawings in CAD software.
• Supports client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
• Assists in field inspections, measurements or calculations for clients.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Complies with all policies and standards.
