About the role

The RFE Associate Attorney is responsible for preparing and overseeing responses to Requests for Evidence (RFEs), Notices of Intent to Deny (NOIDs), and Notices of Intent to Revoke (NOIRs) related to family and humanitarian-based of immigration applications. This role serves as a legal resource for staff attorneys and non-attorney team members. The ideal candidate should have at least three years of experience in family and humanitarian-based immigration law and a passion for helping undocumented immigrants legalize their status. The attorney will advise and represent clients regarding their legal rights in immigration matters.

What you'll do

  • Review, analyze, and respond to USCIS correspondence including RFEs, NOIDs, and NOIRs.
  • Provide direct support to non-attorney RFE team members, including legal escalations and guidance on case-specific questions.
  • Identify legal trends and policy shifts to enhance the quality and consistency of responses.
  • Review and edit RFE responses, and complete other legal tasks, as necessary, for the legal team to meet overall operational goals.
  • Provide onboarding and continuous training to RFE Staff Attorneys and non-attorney team members involved in legal document preparation.
  • Offer ongoing support and training to RFE Staff Attorneys.
  • Audit the work product of RFE Staff Attorneys and non-attorney team members.
  • Communicate directly with clients, as necessary, to provide legal advice, answer legal questions, or handle client escalations.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Active member in good standing of a state bar
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience handling humanitarian and family-based immigration applications (e.g., VAWA, T-Visa, U-Visa, Medical DA, I-130, Adjustment of Status, etc.)
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus
  • Prior experience with RFEs, NOIDs, and NOIRs is a plus
  • Advocacy-focused approach to client representation
  • Strong teamwork skills and a willingness to support other team members as needed
  • Enthusiasm for change, growth, and innovation
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and a strong work ethic
