Job summary

Wellspring Conference Center in Germantown, MD, is seeking a part-time Cook to prepare home-style, vegetarian meals for group retreats and events. You will work weekends 2–4 per month, with duties from menu planning to cooking for 12–50 people and managing kitchen flow.

You will collaborate with a kitchen assistant, ensure food safety, and maintain a clean, efficient workspace. Compensation starts at $20–$25 per hour, depending on training and experience.

Qualifications

• Experience cooking family-style meals for a large group
• Ability to work calmly under kitchen pressure and with retreatants/conference members
• Strong time management and multitasking abilities
• Must shop independently and get to the kitchen
• Must be able to stand long hours in the kitchen
• Complete food safety certification for Kitchen Manager and a second certification in Allergens

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve nutritious meals for groups of 12–50 people.
• Plan menus based on dietary restrictions and vegetarian emphasis; shop for meals ahead of events.
• Cook and plate meals on schedule (Dinner 6pm, Lunch 12pm, Breakfast 8am) and adjust as needed.
• Prepare foods from scratch, including bread and desserts.
• Set up and break down meal service for each meal.
• Assist in washing and cleaning cookware and dishes.
• Ensure food is safely stored at proper temperatures.
• Maintain an orderly, clean kitchen workspace, refrigerators, and pantry.
• Notify hosts of kitchen needs or repairs; keep hygiene standards compliant.
