Job summary

Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) invites applications for a Retirement Services Business Leader to guide a team delivering timely, accurate retirement benefits to Maine’s public employees and retirees.

You will serve as both a people leader and subject matter expert, translating complex retirement processes and legal provisions into practical guidance while supporting your team in modeling high-quality service to members, employers, and others.

Qualifications

• Associate degree plus 5+ years SME experience, or 10+ years SME experience, or equivalent.
• Supervisory or significant team leadership experience.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Excel at beginner level.
• Ability to travel within the state; valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team with supervision, coaching, and performance reviews.
• Serve as SME and primary technical resource for processes, policies, and legal provisions.
• Provide guidance to Specialists and other departments to ensure work is accurate, consistent, and timely.
• Explain statutes, rules, policies, and MainePERS procedures to members and employers.
• Analyze complex issues, research and implement timely, constructive resolutions.
• Direct and supervise day-to-day work and workforce deployment.
• Use KPIs to monitor work and identify improvement opportunities.
• Develop and deliver discipline-specific training for staff.
• Maintain policies and user manuals to promote accuracy.
• Conduct regular team and one-on-one meetings to foster communication and accountability.
