Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Store Manager Candidate to support the Store Manager in implementing store processes, supervising staff, inventory, stocking and receiving, and handling paperwork. This role is designed to develop an external candidate for the Store Manager position for a limited period.

You will assist in recruiting, merchandising, inventory management, in-stock targets, customer service leadership, cash handling, safety and compliance, store opening/closing, and reporting.

Qualifications

• Read and interpret documents such as diagrams and safety rules.
• Perform basic math including percentages and shop calculations.
• Knowledge of cash handling and deposit controls.
• Learn and operate IBM cash register functions to generate reports.
• Understand inventory management and merchandising practices.
• Familiarity with cash/facility/safety policies (deposits, keys, safety programs).
• Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and terminations including compliance.
• Strong verbal and written communication; effective interpersonal skills.
• Organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Problem solving across varied situations; adaptability.
• Some locations may prefer bilingual Spanish speakers.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
• Aid merchandising including staging, stocking and pricing per guidelines.
• Support inventory management and proper handling of damages and markdowns.
• Help maintain in-stock targets and order practices.
• Provide customer service leadership and serve as role model for policies.
• Participate in store opening/closing and cash handling procedures.
• Ensure financial integrity through cashier accountability and cash controls.
• Maintain clean, safe, and well-stocked store; ensure safety for staff and customers.
• Assist in operating the store in the manager's absence and review performance data.
• Complete required paperwork and documentation on time.
