Job summary

Rural King is seeking an Assistant Store Manager Trainee to develop leadership and operational skills for a future ASM role. The program provides hands-on training in retail operations, sales, customer service, merchandising, inventory, and associate development.

As a trainee, you will partner with the Store Manager to support store operations, develop associates, and drive business results. Relocation or commuting to one of three area stores may be required upon promotion.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of retail leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
• Interest in building a career in retail management and progressing into an ASM role.
• Ability to lead, coach, and develop associates in a fast-paced retail environment.
• Experience with retail operations, sales, merchandising, inventory, and customer service.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, analyze information, make decisions, and meet deadlines.
• Proficiency with computers and retail technology (POS, inventory systems).
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and up to a 50‑hour week.
• Willingness to relocate or commute to one of three area stores upon promotion.

Responsibilities

• Support daily store operations and performance with the Store Manager.
• Maintain a safe, organized store environment and appealing displays.
• Assist inventory accuracy, cash handling, shrink reduction, and loss prevention.
• Participate in recruiting, onboarding, training, coaching, and development of associates.
• Deliver exceptional customer service and resolve customer questions or concerns.
• Contribute to promotions, loyalty programs, and community activities.
• Operate store equipment and retail technology as needed.
• Cross-train and perform other duties to support the team.
