Job summary

Diocese of Venice, Inc. is seeking a Retail Assistant for the St. John XXIII Thrift Store in Fort Myers, FL. This part-time position (20 hours/week) supports customers, donors, and volunteers while maintaining a clean, safe store environment.

The role reports to the Thrift Store Manager and requires 1–3 years in stocking or retail, with experience handling cash and processing deposits. Ability to lift 50 lbs and work with volunteers is essential.

Qualifications

• High School degree or equivalent required.
• 1–3 years of related experience in stocking, logistics and/or retail preferred.
• Experience operating a cash register and credit card machine.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs regularly and assist with loading/unloading.
• Knowledge of preparing bank deposits; strong safety awareness.

Responsibilities

• Oversite of volunteers at all skill, age, and physical function levels.
• Direct volunteers to appropriate distribution areas to ensure safe storage and minimal damage of donations in back room and safe placement of merchandise on the sales floor.
• Procure, store and stock all items purchased for store.
• Sort, categorize, price and display all donations for sale floor.
• Maintain files, receipts, daily cash register documentation.
• Prepare weekly cash register documentation and receipts for Parish Bookkeeper.
• Close/Open the store and balance daily register/card terminals, prepare daily deposit.
• Other duties as assigned.

Proactively assist in the fulfillment of the mission of the Thrift Store through the effective and timely support of customers, donors, and volunteers. Responsible to maintain a clean, safe, and secure environment in the store.

Job Responsibilities
