Job summary

The Salvation Army in Key West, FL seeks a Store Supervisor to manage daily thrift store operations and staff. You will lead volunteers, ensure proper pricing, display, and customer service while maintaining security of items and funds.

Responsibilities include scheduling, training, and evaluating employees, handling donations, processing cash, and generating reports. A high school diploma and retail experience are required; supervisory experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED is required.
• 3 years progressively responsible experience in a retail store.
• At least 1 year supervisory experience preferred.
• Equivalent training/experience accepted.

Responsibilities

Job Details: Job Location: FLA-Key West Thrift - Key West, FL 33040, Position Type: Full Time Regular, Salary Range: $20.00, Job Category: Store, Schedule/Hours: Mon-Sat 9:00 am-5:30 pm (40 Hours per wk./ 8 hour day)

About this opportunity:

Plans, administers, monitors, and evaluates the day-to-day operations of a single Thrift Store with a limited staff ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures processes, displays, and prices donated items to ensure a reasonable financial return on the sale of store items. Assists customers in a polite and friendly manner; prepares store displays that are attractive, neat, and orderly. Rotates and re-stocks store merchandise to ensure quick turnover. Ensures the accountability and security of all store items and funds. Plans, schedules, and assigns, and evaluates work of Store and warehouse/sorting room personnel.

Key responsibilities:

• Administers and monitors the day-to-day operations of a small Thrift Store; serves as lead worker to volunteers, beneficiaries, and/or subordinate store personnel; trains and instruct staff in the proper methods and procedures for performing work; inspects work in progress and upon completion for accuracy and completeness.
• Plans, schedules, assigns, and evaluates work of Store Clerks, Sorting Room Workers, and other employees of the Thrift Store; instructs and trains employees in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion to ensure compliance with established store policies and procedures; assists employees in resolving operational or personnel problems; evaluates employees performance and recommends disciplinary action when necessary.
• Assists customers by explaining store policy and responding to questions regarding the pricing and/or purchasing of items; ensures that all customers visiting the store have a pleasant experience.
• Assists customers who are donating items to The Salvation Army; directs customers to the proper loading/unloading area, may assist with hauling donations to the storage area; prepares and provides tax receipts as needed.
• Prepares and delivers bank deposits
• Places and arranges items in the store as directed; checks all store displays to ensure that items are maintained and displayed in a neat and orderly manner; rotates and/or rearranges stock as directed; returns items to the proper location after customer's have handled.
• Assists in cleaning all display racks and shelves; sweeping and mopping floors; cleaning windows and mirrors; ensures that the store is maintained in a clean and inviting manner
• Opens and/or closes store doors in accordance with the store schedule.
• Answers the store telephone in a tactful and courteous manner; assists customers by responding to questions and providing directions and/or general information
• Assists customers purchasing items from The Salvation Army by ringing-up sales utilizing a cash register; collects monies, counts change and prepares receipts; prepares and packages purchased items; prepares and balances the cash drawer and runs routine register print-outs; ensures the security and accountability of all cash register funds and sales records in accordance with established operating procedures.
• Maintains the neatness and security of the cash register area; ensures that forms, bags, etc. are adequately stocked.
• Prepares and maintains a variety of Thrift Store sales reports, records, logs, etc.; ensures the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of the same.
• Schedules donation pick-ups; ensures the accountability of all donated items; ensures donations are collected in compliance with established policies and procedures.
• Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment for the store and warehouse operations.
• Recruits and supervises volunteers working in the Thrift Store and warehouse.
• Performs other related work as required

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOU:: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High School diploma or G.E.D. AND
• 3 years progressively responsible experience working in a retail store environment with at least one years experience in a supervisory capacity preferred OR
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
