Job summary

The Children's Museum of Phoenix is seeking a Shop Associate to support our Museum Store aMUSE Toys & Fun Stuff. Under the Retail Manager, Retail Associates provide excellent customer service, assist visitors, and maintain presentation of the sales floor, products, and displays.

Responsibilities include processing transactions, meeting revenue goals, stocking shelves, and keeping the stock room and sales floor organized while staying aligned with museum policies and events.

Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication.
  • Comfortable in large groups and dealing with families.
  • Basic computer and math skills are required.
  • Fluency in Spanish or other languages is desirable.

FLSA Status: Part-Time / Non Exempt

Reports to: Retail Manager

Direct Reports: None

Compensation: $15.87 with possible incentive

Summary: The Children’s Museum of Phoenix is seeking a Shop Associate to support our Museum Store aMUSE Toys & Fun Stuff. At the direction of the Retail Manager, the Retail Associates are responsible for providing excellent customer service, assisting visitors, and maintaining the presentation of the sales floor, products, and displays. Our Retail Associates will complete transactions through our point of sale while helping all our visitors discover the playful kid within!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Welcome and acknowledge all visitors to the Museum
  • Inform families on / enforce all Museum Safety Protocols
  • Process credit card, cash, and other monetary transactions in a fast-paced environment
  • Meet Department Revenue Goals
  • Promote all current sales and discounts
  • Stock shelves daily
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient Stock Room, Shop Office, and Sales Floor at all times
  • Communicate positively and professionally to co-workers in all levels of the organization
  • Close / Balance daily cash drawer
  • Stay up to date on museum policies, exhibits, and events
  • Work with a high level of energy, strong work ethic, and sense of excitement
  • Other duties as assigned
QualificationsQualification/Requirements:
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Creative, with a positive, can-do attitude
  • Availability on weekdays. Weekends, Holidays, and some evenings for Special Events.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills and customer-service orientation
  • Strong ability to work under pressure and respond to deadlines and changing environments
  • Experience working with Children and Families
  • Comfortable in large groups of people
  • Basic Computer Skills
  • Basic Mathematic Skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or other languages desirable

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education/Training/Experience:
  • High School graduate or GED
  • Minimum 1 year of retail service and cash handling experience preferred
  • Must meet requirements of employment background check

Language Skills: Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints with visitors. Fluency in Spanish and/or other languages desirable

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts as well as basic mathematic skills (subtraction, multiplication, division)

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of basic computer skills; Becoming efficient in Altru through training and usage to successfully meet departmental responsibilities.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to remain stationary in front of a computer for up to 8 hours and must have good communication skills (i.e., communicate clearly and effectively in both written and spoken English). The employee must be able to see well and able read fine print. This job also requires the use of a computer and must be able to lift boxes weighing up to 25 pounds.

Environmental Requirements: Must be able to work in a well-lighted, temperature-controlled work area. May also be exposed to extreme weather conditions with constant ambient noise levels. Must be able to work in open area with other employees. Employee must adhere to current company and CDC pandemic related guidelines.
