Job summary

Big Lots is seeking an Assistant Manager in Virginia Beach area to support store operations and deliver exceptional customer service. You will assist the Store Manager with hiring, training, and developing the team while ensuring daily tasks are executed efficiently and safely.

The role requires a hands-on leader who can oversee opening and closing procedures, protect assets, and maintain store standards. Previous retail leadership is preferred and a flexible schedule is necessary to cover days,

Qualifications

• Prior retail and management experience preferred.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and written skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist with hiring, training and development of store team members.
• Support store functions and day-to-day activities as directed by the Store Manager.
• Open/close procedures in the absence of the Store Manager.
• Protect and secure company assets, including store cash.
• Adhere to policies, safety guidelines and maintain a professional environment.
• Maintain store areas to company standards and assist in stockroom management.
• Provide direct supervision for hourly team members when Manager is not on site.
• Process corporate directives and assist with merchandise receipt/return and freight flow.
• Meet or exceed productivity standards and assist in stocking merchandise.
