Job summary

Gentle Monster is seeking an Associate Accountant to maintain accurate financial records in a fast-paced retail environment. You will focus on reconciliations, accounts receivable and payable, and cash transactions across offline stores and online operations.

You will collaborate with store operations, the online team, and external vendors to support month-end closings, prepare financial statements and tax filings, and deliver reliable reporting for internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years of accounting experience with AR/AP and reconciliations.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance; solid foundation in accounting principles.
• Knowledge of GAAP to ensure compliant financial reporting.
• CPA or Equivalent Certification preferred but not mandatory.
• Retail experience, especially with credit card reconciliation and cash management.
• Familiarity with Shopify, Stripe, or similar processors.
• Proficiency with Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs) for reconciliation.
• Experience with QuickBooks or NetSuite and retail POS integrations.
• Ability to track till cash, deposits, and daily cash reconciliation.
• Collaborate with store ops, online teams, and external vendors.
• Attention to detail and data integrity.
• Proactive in identifying inefficiencies and process improvements.

Responsibilities

• Reconcile sales revenue from Shopify and Stripe against deposits.
• Investigate discrepancies with store managers, online team, and processors.
• Monitor and review daily cash transactions from offline stores.
• Reconcile daily cash reports with system records.
• Liaise with cash management company and oversee bank deposits.
• Manage collection and validation of expense and reimbursement reports.
• Ensure proper review and approvals of submitted reports for accuracy.
• Classify expenses for financial reporting and cost centers.
• Participate in month-end and year-end closings.
• Prepare accurate financial statements for internal and external stakeholders.
• Assist in tax returns including sales, income, and property taxes.
• Coordinate with departments to ensure smooth financial operations.
