Job summary

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is seeking a dependable Highway Maintenance Worker 1 in Cle Elum, WA to support year‑round maintenance of rest areas across South Central Region Area 1. You will perform hands‑on duties including janitorial tasks, minor repairs, and grounds work to keep facilities safe and welcoming for travelers.

The role requires a valid driver's license, safety awareness, and ability to work nights, weekends, and on‑call shifts.

Qualifications

• Possession of a valid driver’s license at time of hire and ability to obtain/maintain First Aid Certification within 6 months.
• Strong understanding of workplace safety procedures and adherence to safety policies including confined space entry, fall protection, and hazardous material handling.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with a focus on respectful, equitable work environment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain restrooms and rest areas to be clean and operational.
• Perform janitorial tasks, basic repairs, and grounds maintenance.
• Respond to public needs, ensure facilities are welcoming and safe for travelers.
• Use appropriate tools to clean, disinfect, and maintain building interiors and surrounding areas.
• Assist with supplies management and general upkeep to support year‑round operations.
