Job summary

Methodist Richardson Medical Center in Dallas is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) to provide respiratory care for adults and neonates. The role includes ABG, PFTs, ventilator support, and oxygen therapy under physician oversight.

Requirements include graduating from an accredited Respiratory Care Program, valid BLS and ACLS, and NBRC registration with Texas licensure. NRP/PALS must be obtained within one year of hire; 6 months of experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required.
• NRP and Pediatric Advanced Life Support must be obtained within 1 year of hire.
• Licensed by the Texas Medical Board as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in good standing.
• Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
• At least 6 months of respiratory care experience preferred; new graduates encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Performs respiratory therapeutics including oxygen administration and weaning, aerosol and humidity therapy, IPPB, incentive spirometry, airway maintenance, bronchial hygiene, chest physiotherapy, CPR and mechanical ventilation.
• Performs and reports prescribed cardiopulmonary diagnostic procedures including arterial blood gas analysis, pulse oximetry, Pulmonary Function Tests, and electrocardiograms.
• Prepares a treatment evaluation with bedside respiratory assessment, patient interview and review of medical records.
• Uses critical thinking to determine appropriate actions in patient care.
• Interprets chest X-ray, ABG, and PFT data when reviewing patient information.
• Assembles, checks, operates and troubleshoots cardiopulmonary equipment such as ventilators, oxygen analyzers, delivery devices and blood gas analyzers.
• Participates in infection control, safety and quality assurance tasks.
• Performs cleaning and maintenance of all cardiopulmonary equipment and work areas.
• Uses patient-facing scripts to improve satisfaction and communication.
• Performs other job duties as required.
