Job summary

Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, IL, is seeking a Respiratory Therapist for a 0.9 FTE, day-shift position. You will provide comprehensive respiratory care, operate ventilators, and support patient education under licensed supervision.

Responsibilities include assessment, therapy administration, equipment maintenance, and interdepartmental collaboration to ensure patient safety and high-quality care across the continuum.

Qualifications

• Graduate from accredited respiratory care program with at least an associate degree.
• RCP license in the practicing state.
• NBRC credentials: RRT within 12 months or CRT if credential before 2023.
• BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
• No experience required.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient using pulmonary diagnostics and labs; correlate blood gases.
• Operate ventilators in critical and non-critical care; assist physicians.
• Provide medications as ordered and per protocols.
• Maintain and troubleshoot equipment; arrange repairs.
• Educate patients on therapy purpose and self-care.
• Collaborate with departments to educate on managing patients.
• Follow site policies across service areas; adapt as needed.
• Communicate clearly in handoffs.
• Promote patient safety and report safety events.
• Teach and precept new teammates and students.
• Match care to age-specific needs of patients.
