Job summary

Mass General Brigham's Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital, Inc. seeks a per diem Respiratory Therapist to support patient care on the units. You will assess, initiate, modify, and discontinue respiratory therapies for critically ill patients under physician oversight.

Responsibilities include bedside rounds, emergencies, and education of staff and students. License, BLS, ACLS, and PALS are required or obtained within specified timelines. Onsite location at 1133 Centre Street.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy required; Bachelor's preferred.
• Massachusetts Board of Respiratory Care license.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist.
• Current BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications; ACLS/PALS within 90 days.
• 1 year experience preferred.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with patients and staff.

Job Summary

SummaryActs as an active member of the patient care team to provide clinical patient care assessment, initiation, modification, and discontinuance of therapeutic respiratory care procedures to critically ill patients. Analyzes and evaluates clinical patient data to determine the appropriate therapy or interventions and makes recommendations on patient care plans to the medical staff.Does this position require Patient Care? Essential Functions

• Initiates and/or assists with appropriate respiratory tests and procedures, as ordered, to deliver appropriate care to patients
• Responds to respiratory emergencies and transports mechanically ventilated patients when moved from units for tests and procedures
• Prepares appropriate care plan, and makes specific recommendations to physician for indicated therapy. Schedules patient treatments as necessary and provides consultation as an active member of the patient care team
• Manages the administration of all aspects of respiratory therapy according to respiratory care policies and procedures
• Makes regular bedside rounds and administers Respiratory Care modalities to assigned patients. Modifies treatment care plan according to clinical picture and response to therapy
• Participates in education of students, physicians, staff, and patients/families. Clinically supervises respiratory therapy students in the patient areas

Qualifications

• Education: Associate's Degree Respiratory Therapy required and Bachelor's Degree Respiratory Therapy preferred

• Licenses and Credentials: Associated Degree in Respiratory Care
• Current Massachusetts Board of Respiratory Care license
• Registered Respiratory Therapist
• Current BLS certification
• ACLS Required. Must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment
• PALS Required. Must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
• 1 Year experience is preferred.
• Experience: Respiratory Care 0-1 year preferred
• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to be a subject matter expert in the area of Respiratory Therapy and be able to communicate effectively with patients, team members, and other healthcare disciplines.
• Ability to assess quickly and offer professional judgment to prepare appropriate care plan, and makes specific recommendations to physician for indicated therapy.
• Strong communication Skills.
• Ability to walk distances and push medical equipment weighing less than 100 pounds.
• May also be required to stand immobile for long periods of time.
