Mass General Brigham is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to join the patient care team at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. You will assess, initiate, modify and discontinue respiratory therapies for critically ill patients and participate in bedside rounds with the medical staff.

Qualifications include an Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy (Bachelor's preferred), Massachusetts license, NICU experience preferred, and strong communication and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy is required.
  • Massachusetts license or national equivalent if applicable? Massachusetts Board of Respiratory Care required.
  • NICU experience 1–2 years preferred; neonatal/pediatric specialty preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Initiates and/or assists with respiratory tests and procedures as ordered to deliver appropriate care.
  • Responds to respiratory emergencies and transports patients as indicated.
  • Prepares care plans and makes physician-specific recommendations for indicated therapy.
  • Manages all aspects of respiratory care per policies, including NICU therapies.
  • Performs bedside rounds and educates students, physicians, staff, patients and families.

Job Summary Massachusetts General HospitalActs as an active member of the patient care team to provide clinical patient care assessment, initiation, modification and discontinuance of therapeutic respiratory care procedures to critically ill patients. Analyzes and evaluates clinical patient data to determine the appropriate therapy or interventions and makes recommendations on patient care plans to the medical staff. Essential Functions
  • Initiates and/or assists with appropriate respiratory tests and procedures, as ordered, to deliver appropriate care to patients. This includes moderate complexity point of care (POC) testing for Blood Gas Analysis.
  • Responds to respiratory emergencies, including high-risk deliveries, and transports patients as indicated.
  • Prepares appropriate care plan and makes specific recommendations to physician for indicated therapy. Schedules patient treatments as necessary and provides consultation as an active member of the patient care team.
  • Manages the administration of all aspects of respiratory therapy according to respiratory care policies and procedures, including NICU-specific therapies.
  • Makes regular bedside rounds and administers Respiratory Care modalities to assigned patients. Modifies treatment care plan according to clinical picture and response to therapy.
  • Participates in education of students, physicians, staff, patients, and families.

Licenses and Credentials Respiratory Therapist [Massachusetts] - Massachusetts Board of Respiratory Care required

Experience NICU experience 1-2 years preferred NPS Neonatal/Pediatric Respiratory Care Specialty (cert) preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to be a subject matter expert in the area of Respiratory Therapy and be able to communicate effectively with patients, team members, and other healthcare disciplines.
  • Ability to assess quickly and offer professional judgment to prepare appropriate care plan, and makes specific recommendations to physician for indicated therapy.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to walk distances and push medical equipment weighing less than 100 lbs. may also be required to stand immobile for long periods of time.
