Job summary

Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, part of Mass General Brigham, is seeking a Per Diem Respiratory Care Assistant to support respiratory therapy treatments under licensed therapists. Onsite at 789 Central Avenue with pay range provided.

Experience in respiratory care is preferred, and you will gather vital signs, prepare equipment, and document patient progress. Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and enrollment in a respiratory therapy program; BLS certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Enrollment in a Respiratory Therapy Program; BLS certification preferred.
• Experience: 0–1 year in respiratory care preferred.
• Knowledge of respiratory therapy techniques and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient assessments and monitor respiratory status.
• Prepare equipment for respiratory therapy treatments (oxygen, nebulizers, ventilators).
• Keep accurate records of assessments, treatment plans and progress.
• Assist with administration of respiratory therapy, including oxygen therapy and chest physiotherapy.
• Clean and sterilize equipment after use to prevent infections.
• Assist with resuscitation efforts in emergencies when required.

Job Summary Salary range: $22.81-$32.62. Pay is based on experience.

Responsible for assisting with the administration of respiratory therapy treatments and procedures to patients with respiratory problems under the supervision of licensed respiratory therapists.

Essential Functions

• Assists with patient assessments by gathering information about patients' respiratory conditions by taking vital signs, measuring oxygen levels, and monitoring breathing patterns.
• Prepares equipment for respiratory therapy treatments, such as oxygen tanks, nebulizers, and ventilators.
• Keeps accurate records of patient assessments, treatment plans, and progress.
• Helps with the administration of respiratory therapy treatments, such as oxygen therapy, chest physiotherapy, and breathing exercises.
• Cleans and sterilizes equipment after each use to prevent the spread of infection.
• In the event of an emergency, assists with resuscitation efforts and notifies the healthcare team.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No.

Licenses and Credentials: Must be enrolled in a Respiratory Therapy Program, Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - Data Conversion - Various Issuers preferred.

Experience: Experience working in respiratory care 0-1 year preferred.

• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of the respiratory system.
• Knowledge of respiratory therapy techniques and equipment.
• Proficiency in performing basic respiratory care interventions such as oxygen therapy and airway management.
• Ability to perform patient assessments and monitor patient progress.
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot equipment and patient issues.
• Ability to adapt in changing situations and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
