Job Summary

Provides evaluation of and care for respiratory therapy patients. Administers prescribed respiratory therapeutic services.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:

• Registry eligible according to the National Board for Respiratory Care. Must meet all registered requirements within one year of employment.
• Licensed by West Virginia Board of Respiratory Care as a Licensed Respiratory Therapist - Registered (LRTR), or applicable state where services will be performed, or hold a temporary license if permitted by state regulations.
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
• ACLS, PALS, and NRP may be required within 30 days of hire based on local hospital requirements. Refer to the list below for specific hospital requirements:

• BARNS: ACLS
• BMC: ACLS, PALS, and NRP within 6 months of hire
• CCMC: ACLS if working in Cardiac Pulmonary Rehab
• GRMC: ACLS
• HARR: ACLS
• JMC: ACLS, PALS, and NRP within 6 months of hire
• PCH: ACLS, PALS, NRP, and STABLE
• PVH: ACLS
• RMH: NRP
• UHC: ACLS
• UNTWN: ACLS

Preferred Qualifications

Experience:

Two (2) years of respiratory therapy experience in a hospital setting.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

The following statements describe the general nature of work performed by individuals in this position. They are not all-inclusive. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Performs basic and advanced therapeutic procedures for neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients by order of the physician.
2. Assembles, checks, and corrects malfunctions and performs quality controls on respiratory care equipment.
3. Initiates, maintains, and discontinues mechanical ventilation for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients.
4. Communicates effectively with other healthcare team members regarding patient care.
5. Provides assistance with patient and family/caregiver education alongside other team members.
6. Participates in departmental quality assurance and hospital-wide performance improvement activities.
7. Performs diagnostic procedures for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients as ordered by the physician.
8. Maintains clinical and professional competency based on established standards.
9. Demonstrates the ability to perform all relevant departmental competencies.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand/walk for extended periods; lift, push, and/or pull 40 pounds.

Working Environment

Maintain awareness of environmental factors and infection control to ensure a safe environment for patient care.

Additional Job Details

Various shifts, including weekends, nights, and holidays. Shifts are from 6 am - 6 pm and 6 pm - 6 am.
