Job summary

MedStar Health is seeking a Respiratory Care Practitioner to join the team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The ideal candidate will be a certified respiratory therapist with strong patient care skills and knowledge of respiratory care equipment and protocols.

You will assess patients across the age spectrum, perform therapies, monitor equipment, and contribute to a collaborative team environment within a large healthcare system recognized for its patient care excellence.

Qualifications

• Associate degree from AMA accredited respiratory care program (AAS or higher).
• CRT NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist or NBRC Registered Pulmonary Function Technician.
• BLS certification required.
• ACLS within one year of hire.
• NRP within one year of hire.
• PALS within one year of hire.
• Registry eligible; some acute experience preferred.
• Preferred education: Bachelor’s degree in related healthcare field.
• Preferred certification: RRT from NBRC.

Responsibilities

• Assess the physical, psychosocial, spiritual & cultural dimensions of the patient and document educational needs.
• Perform all respiratory therapy treatments and manage equipment (ventilators, oxygen, humidity, etc.).
• Apply therapeutic communication, interviewing, problem solving and crisis intervention.
• Respond to CPR, maintain airway and provide oxygen/ventilation.
• Facilitate workflow efficiency and review EMRs and physician orders during shifts.
