Job summary

MedStar Health is seeking a Respiratory Care Practitioner to join MedStar Washington Hospital Center as a certified respiratory therapist. You will provide comprehensive patient care with strong knowledge of respiratory care and protocols.

The role requires skill in respiratory anatomy, equipment operation, and serving patients across all ages, from neonatal to geriatrics, while working within a large health system known for quality care in the Baltimore-Washington region.

Qualifications

• Associate degree from AMA accredited respiratory care program (AAS or higher).
• CRT – NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist.
• BLS certification required.
• ACLS certification within 1 year of hire.
• NRP certification within 1 year of hire.
• PALS certification within 1 year of hire.
• Must be registry eligible; some acute care experience preferred.
• Preferred education: Bachelor's degree in related healthcare field.
• Preferred certification: RRT NBRC.

Responsibilities

• Assess the physical, psychosocial, spiritual & cultural dimensions of the patient as well as educational needs and document appropriately.
• Perform respiratory therapy treatments and services, including oxygen, ventilation support, bronchial hygiene, lung expansion, spirometry, EKG, and blood gas analysis.
• Employ therapeutic communication, interviewing, problem solving and crisis intervention in patient care.
• Respond to cardiopulmonary resuscitation with airway management and ventilation.
• Facilitate workflow efficiency by reviewing EMRs and physician orders and suggesting process improvements.

Education

Associate degree in respiratory care (AMA accredited)

CRT NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist

BLS certification

ACLS within 1 year

NRP within 1 year

PALS within 1 year

RRT NBRC certification

Bachelor's degree in related healthcare field
