Job summary

MedStar Health seeks a Respiratory Care Practitioner to join the team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The ideal candidate is a certified respiratory therapist capable of delivering comprehensive respiratory care to patients of all ages, following established standards and protocols.

Responsibilities include performing treatments, operating and monitoring equipment, and collaborating with physicians and the care team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Associate degree from an AMA-accredited program in respiratory care with an AAS or higher is required.
• BLS, ACLS, NRP, and PALS certifications are required (or obtained within specified hire period).
• Must be registry eligible; NBRC credentials preferred (RRT or equivalent).
• Preferred education: Bachelor's degree in a related healthcare field.
• Preferred certification: NBRC RRT if available.

Responsibilities

• Assess physical, psychosocial, spiritual and cultural dimensions and educational needs of the patient.
• Perform respiratory therapy treatments and services, including oxygen, humidity, ventilators, bronchial hygiene and lung expansion.
• Monitor and manage respiratory equipment; review EMR and physician orders; document appropriately.
• Respond to CPR and airway management; provide oxygen and ventilation as needed.
• Participate in workflow improvements and interdepartmental coordination.
