Shift: Casual Part-Time Nights
Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director and Supervisor of Respiratory Therapy, the Registered Respiratory Therapist administers respiratory therapy care and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system, following physician prescriptions.
Essential Duties:
- Interview patients and family members to gather information about home environment, family relationships, health, and psychosocial history.
- Review prescriptions, assess patient condition, and administer respiratory therapy safely.
- Inspect and test respiratory therapy equipment for safety and functionality; adjust and order repairs as needed.
- Clean, disinfect, and sterilize therapy equipment.
- Set up and operate devices such as ventilators, gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators.
- Ensure treatment parameters are met and administer medicinal gases and aerosol drugs.
- Monitor physiological responses to therapy, including vital signs and blood gases.
- Perform bronchopulmonary drainage and assist with breathing exercises.
- Conduct pulmonary function tests for diagnostic purposes.
- Assist with C-sections, bronchoscopies, and respond to emergency situations like Rapid Response, Code Blue, and trauma cases.
- Assist in percutaneous tracheotomies and bedside bronchoscopies.
- Consult with physicians regarding adverse reactions.
- Maintain accurate patient charts.
- Demonstrate procedures to trainees and healthcare personnel.
- Provide care tailored to patients of all ages, considering their specific needs.
- Lead in the absence of supervision, delegate tasks, and monitor shift productivity.
- Address conflicts promptly and record incidents for management.
- Communicate personnel issues to supervisors regarding work standards and care quality.
Qualifications
License/Certification:
- Registered Respiratory Therapist certification from the National Board of Respiratory Care.
- Current Respiratory Therapist license from the State of Oregon.
- American Heart Association BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
- ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications within 60 days of hire.
Experience:
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently within a team.
Education:
- Associate’s degree from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
